![]() ![]() Review 'Kinky, artsy, and swoon-worthy.' (New York Magazine) 'The author does a great job. The blade slips in barely noticed, the pain and the apology delivered at the same time. Diary of an Oxygen Thief is an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel, but above all, a very realistic account of what we do to each other and what we allow to have done to us. An expert heartbreaker knows the effect of each incision. I recommend it to young adults and older, due to some inappropriate material included throughout the novel.įavorite Quote: “Hurt people hurt people more skillfully. It is a light read for the beach or short day trip. Overall, the novel was enjoyable, and readable. Diary of an Oxygen Thief is an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel, but above all, a very. The novel felt rushed towards the end, especially towards the climax, and the mention of his true love that he let go was dismissed and only briefly mentioned. Say there was a novel in which Holden Caulfield was an alcoholic and Lolita was a photographers assistant and, somehow, they met in Bright Lights, Big City. Junot Diaz, author of The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao 'First he steals the oxygen from you, then he spits it right back in your face. Fairly predictable and anticlimactic story of a sociopath who used to break women’s hearts for pleasure during alcohol. Diary of an Oxygen Thief is an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel, but above all, a very realistic account of what we do to each other and what we allow to have done to us. Diary of an Oxygen Thief was called a 'surprise dark-horse Williamsburg best seller' by New York Magazine, referring to the independent art, literature, and music scene in Brooklyn, New York. The style of writing was amazing, don’t get me wrong, but there was some parts of the novel that needed to be elaborated upon and others that didn’t require as much detail as they were given. Diary of an Oxygen Thief Book Author: Anonymous. Diary of an Oxygen Thief is a 2006 Dutch novel, written by Anonymous and published in Amsterdam by NLVI. The author doesn’t hold back in any of his mishaps and how he enjoys to “hurt women – mentally, not physically.” His sarcastic tone throughout the tone makes him terribly unlikable, but by the end of the novel – he manages to make the reader feel bad for him.ĭespite all these positives, I believe the novel could have been written better. The writing is unlike novels I have ever read before, much more raw and realistic. He begins the novel with stories of his past relationships and all the times he has ruined another girl’s life. From the first sentence of the novel, I was hooked. The only emotions this book made me feel were irritation at the main character, for a multitude of reasons, and nauseated from the second hand embarrassment at his humiliation.“Diary of an Oxygen Thief” is a story that follows the author, who remains anonymous, through his alcoholic pitiful love story with a photographer’s assistant in NYC. ![]() It had a desperate "feel bad for me, feel bad for me" hope for pity the entire time, and it just made the author look continuously more stupid. Say there was a novel in which Holden Caulfield was an alcoholic and Lolita was a photographer’s assistant and, somehow, they met in Bright Lights, Big City. But even then, this was such a self-pitying book that I could barely take anything the author was saying seriously. I suppose the only "message" that was even remotely meaningful was about how men AND women just use each other to move up in life in different ways. It was nowhere near an insightful read, honestly. Even when he was sober and "better" he still constantly objectified women. Bro referred to women as FEMALES several times. There was pretty much nothing concrete or even likeable about his personality, and almost nothing relatable about him either. Sometimes the main character didn't seem to realize that he was the problem, yet other times he knew he was. I was hoping for character development and found close to none. My first impression was that it was about a misogynist, and was stupid to the point where I wanted to put it down, but I didn't solely for the purpose of seeing how much worse it could get. If I had to describe this book in one sentence it would be: Sociopathic incel who enjoys hurting women because daddy didn't love him finally meets his match and gets his heart broken.
